This Women’s Day, Celebrating Women Who Rise and Lead

International Women’s Day is not only about honouring women. It is about recognising the systems that help them move forward. Real empowerment happens when women are given access to education, skills, resources and opportunity. It happens when support is consistent, practical and rooted in community realities.

At Light of Life Trust, this commitment comes alive through two key initiatives: the Anando Program and Jagruti.

Jagruti: Awakening Potential at the Grassroots

Jagruti is the community development arm of Light of Life Trust. The word itself means awareness or awakening, and that is exactly what the initiative seeks to create. It works closely with rural and underserved communities to build confidence, financial independence and leadership among women.

Under Jagruti, empowerment is not abstract. It is practical, hands on and deeply connected to everyday life.

Skilling for Sustainable Livelihoods

One of the core pillars of Jagruti is skill development. Women are trained in stitching and tailoring, enabling them to start home based enterprises or take up local work opportunities. These skills create immediate earning potential and long term stability.

Computer training programs introduce women to digital literacy, opening doors to administrative roles, data entry work and new forms of employment that were once beyond reach. In today’s world, digital knowledge is power, and Jagruti ensures women are not left behind.

Salon and beauty courses are another important avenue of income generation. With structured training, women can begin offering services within their communities or work in local salons, building both income and self confidence.

When a woman earns, she gains more than financial security. She gains a voice in household decisions and a stronger position within her community.

Supporting Women in Agriculture

In many rural regions, women shoulder the bulk of agricultural and household responsibilities. Jagruti addresses this reality with thoughtful interventions.

Water wheels are provided to reduce the physical strain of carrying heavy water pots across long distances. What once took hours of exhausting labour becomes manageable, saving time and protecting health. That time can then be invested in income generating activities, childcare or personal growth.

Women farmers are also supported with free saplings, encouraging sustainable farming practices and additional sources of income. By planting fruit bearing or economically valuable trees, women create long term financial resilience for their families. These efforts not only strengthen livelihoods but also promote environmental sustainability.

Through these initiatives, agriculture becomes less about survival and more about growth.

Awareness and Leadership

Jagruti also focuses on financial literacy, awareness of government schemes, health education and community leadership. Women are encouraged to come together, share experiences and build collective strength. This sense of community transforms individual struggles into shared progress.

Women move from being beneficiaries to becoming leaders within their villages.

Anando: Keeping Girls on the Path of Education

While Jagruti empowers women at the community level, the Anando Program focuses on adolescents, especially girls, ensuring they stay in school and complete their education.

Many girls from underserved communities are at risk of dropping out due to financial challenges, early marriage or family pressure. Anando provides academic support, mentoring, life skills education, career guidance and digital exposure.

The program creates a safe and encouraging environment where girls are reminded that their dreams matter. When a girl completes her education, she steps into adulthood with confidence, clarity and choice.

A Celebration Rooted in Action

This Women’s Day, the story is not just about celebrating strength. It is about recognising the structures that nurture it.

Through Jagruti, women gain skills, resources and economic independence. Through Anando, young girls are supported to stay in school and imagine bigger futures.

From classrooms to farmlands. From tailoring units to computer labs. From water wheels easing daily burdens to saplings growing into steady income.

Empowerment is not a slogan. It is daily work.

And at Light of Life Trust, that work continues, ensuring that every woman and every girl has the opportunity not just to survive, but to thrive.
