How often have we heard our parents tell us to take part in competitive examinations? However, despite all the amenities at hand we find it a daunting task to take it up. But here is Akshay who fought all odds and hardships and is currently prepping for his competitive exam in Pune.
Akshay was born in an impoverished family. When Akshay was just 5 years old, his father left the family and fled. The only family he had was his mother and grandfather. His grandfather’s pension was spent mostly on treating his own ailments. Akshay’s mother who knew a bit of tailoring went out and started working. And this became their only source of income.
It was her dream that Akshay should have a good education. It was not so easy, because they had no other help from outside. It was then that Light of Life Trust came to their rescue and enrolled Akshay as a beneficiary in eighth standard.
A hardworking student and gifted orator Akshay won various school and district level competitions. He attended every workshop organised by Light of Life Trust which has had a deeply positive impact on him. He further focussed on his studies and achieved 91% in the 10th Board exams and secured second rank in his school.
Even after finishing his schooling, he remained connected to the organization and continued to participate in all its programmes. But this time as a teacher while also studying for his HSC. He helped in grooming new students and also enhanced his own leadership qualities, understanding of group processes and volunteerism.
After passing the HSC exam, he realized that he needed to supplement the family income by doing a job. So he came to Mumbai and enrolled in a degree course and also worked part- time to earn some money.
With time his responsibilities at work increased and he became an Operations Trainee while simultaneously earning a degree in Political Science and History.
In the last year of his graduation, he decided to become an IAS officer. Initially he tried to juggle work at a private firm with his studies, but he found it challenging to study due to irregular work timings. Seeing his potential and his passion, he was offered work as a junior officer in the head office of Life of Life Trust, with a monthly income of Rs. 10,000/-
Finally, he decided that he needed to focus wholly on his competitive examination preparation and has shifted to Pune to train under a good coaching class.
This isn’t just Akshay’s story. It is the story of several aspirants who come to Light of Life Trust with a dream and a hope. And we say with pride that we help fulfil dreams and help these aspirants achieve their goals.
